IPv6

Lab aims

Helping students develop considerable skills of equipment configuration for operation with IP protocol of the next generation – IPv6. The following technologies are used in the lab: IPv6, GRE, OSPF, EIGRP, ACLs.

The lab is performed using GNS3 emulator. It is expected that the student is already acquainted with the corresponding theoretical material, which is not explained in this lab. In order to revise the theoretical material, one should look up textbooks on Cisco CCNP Route.

Network scheme

Lab description

  1. Create an address plan for that part of the network, where IPv4 is used. IPv4 support is turned on only on R2-R6 routers.
  2. Create an address plan for that part of the network, where IPv6 is used. IPv6 support is turned on only on the following routers: R1, R2, R6 and R7. A and B networks are usual IPv6 user networks with a standard /64 mask.
  3. Use two additional routers for emulation of A and B local networks. Change the scheme suggested taking this condition into account.
  4. Build the scheme suggested in GNS3 and turn on the devices. Configure respective IP-addresses at the interfaces.
  5. Set up dynamic routing using OSPF protocol on the routers, supporting IPv4.
  6. Configure a GRE-tunnel between R2 and R6 routers.
  7. On the routers, emulating nodes of local networks A and B, set up IPv6 addresses using EUI-64 mechanism.
  8. Set up default gateways on the routers, emulating nodes of local networks A and B.
  9. Set up dynamic routing using EIGRP protocol on R1, R2, R6 and R7 routers. Assure stable packet forwarding between A and B networks.
  10. Configure access lists on R1 and/or R7 routers so that TCP-connection could be initiated only by nodes from A network towards nodes from B network.
  11. On the routers, emulating hosts in A and B local networks, set up a possibility of remote control using telnet protocol. Make sure that access lists, configured in the previous point, allow establishing a connection only in one direction.
